​Referencing the 19th-century ball for the mentally ill held at the Salpêtrière Hospital, “Un bal” breaks down and reconstructs nervous, pathological, or pathologized movements. Beyond that, the piece is a reflection on the historical evolution of how we view things that escape control, or how to move from “crisis movements” to collective, joyful dance.
